Phaeno - The obviously visible science centre

Most people travelling from the West of Germany to Berlin by train know it: “Phaeno”, the science centre designed by London-based architect Zaha Hadid. The building in exposed concrete and steel, which is located at the intersection of Wolfsburg’s city centre, the Volkswagenwerk and the central station, became since its completion in November 2005 a landmark of the Volkswagen town – being obviously visible from the train window.

Katharina Horstmann

Katharina Horstmann – INTERNI World Design News – correspondent from Berlin After a decade abroad, Katharina now is back in Berlin, exploring the city’s vastness and smells. She studied interior design in New York and Milan, and worked both for Lissoni Associati and as a freelance writer and prop stylist in the design capital before moving to London. Here she enrolled in the MA course Curating Contemporary Design at Kingston University and the Design Museum, co-curated the exhibition "El Ultimo Grito: Make Believe" and volunteered at the Architecture Foundation. Since September Katharina lives –again– in the German capital where she works as a journalist, collaborating with design and lifestyle magazines all over the world and enjoying the variety of people, places and projects she encounters through her job.
